Question:

A steel bar is magnetised by stroking it several times with the south pole of a magnet, as shown.

Which poles are formed at X and Y?

Solution:

At X there will be a North pole while at Y there will be a South pole.

Iron is used to make temporary magnet while steel is used to make permanent magnet.
