## Hook's law - Elastic limit

Elastic limit:
If you stretch the spring too far, the line (Force-extension graph) no longer straight, and hook’s law is no longer true.

The point at the end of the straight line is known as the limit of proportionality or elastic limit.

If the material (spring) is stretched beyond the elastic limit, there is a permanent change in its shape.

After elastic limit different materials behave differently.

Effect of applied force on the materials:
1)A music wire will behave as shown in the graph. It will break shortly after the limit of proportionality is reached.
